rings n things

Hello to all.

Maybe you can help me out. I had a thing maker as a kid and it was a Rings n things maker. It would make rings and pins. My brothers had one that made cars. The only thing makers I can locate on the web are the creepy crawlies. Are the ones we had that rare or are they of another toy maker?

Bev

GOOP FX...my bad

Hello All,
I know some people think my Deetail Patti-goop was expensive because it was only 1/2 oz., but I made a discovery today, and boy do I feel dumb. The manufacturer of my bottles call them a half ounce squeeze bottle, but when I measured them today with water, they are actually 3/4 of an ounce!

I also gather from some of the comments that the detail tip isn't the greatest either. I agree, but it is very difficult to find the right bottle with a detail tip that you can fill yourself. I will work on this. I usually apply mine with a detail paint brush or with a toothpick. I squeeze out a dot of different colors like a painter does on his palette, and dip into them with a toothpick. On Tarzan's eyes I even used a pin.

The good news is...I do have white!

I'm so sorry I haven't been writing regularly on this forum. I moved in February and it has been a crazy year. Still painting and unpacking.

What colors or types of GOOP FX do you want to see come out? pastels? glitters? more shimmers? earth tones?

thanks so much!
Patty

I think it only a matter of time before this forum goes off line and gone forever. In order to help all of us stay in touch, share, and communicate about Creepy Crawlers and similar hobbies. The two forums are

http://www.forum.dr-goop.com

and

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/molding_toys/

I am a member of both groups and I hope to see you all there.
Ed Douglass passed away last night 14 July 2009

Ed Douglass passed away last night from cancer. He was the source of inspiration for a lot of what we tried to do with Plasti-Craft. He was a creative and caring person. He was my friend. For those of you who don't know him he is the person behind Retro-Hobbies.com and he also brought us this message board. My heart goes out to his wife and three sons ages 10,16, and 18.

Ed is in the Hospital

Ed's illness is progressing and he is in the hospital. After speaking with his wife it seems that his situation is to the point where he will need constant medical attention and so he won't be returning home. I don't think hospitals have internet access for patients so we might not hear from him. I am going to put together a care package and personal letter to send and have his wife take it to him. If there are any messages you would like to pass along just email them to me and I will print them out and include them in the package.

mold making

Ive had this idea for awhile, but because I have a proffesional vacu-form machine I thought maybe it was a bad idea since not everyone has one, but if you have an old Mattel Vacuform it might be feasible, first cut heavy alum foil to the size of the vacuform sheets, close the holder to secure the alum sheet, you wont have to heat it, place your item to be copied on the platen, and slowly press the alum sheet over it while pumping the vacume handle, if it works, slowly remove the alum foil copy, bend corners down to it can sit flat, place it in your favorite Heater or oven and add goop, your probably not gonna get alot of Creepies from one mold but its easy enough to make another,,
Now I dont have a Mattel vacuform mine more of an industrial one that uses a vacume cleaner for vacume, so if someone could let us know if it works?

Color Mixing Goop

I recently received a shipment of goop from Dr Goop. Brown is back! One small difference is that this new brown is slightly darker than the previous brown. Has anyone else noticed this? It is possible to recreate the previous hue of brown by adding yellow and red to the new brown. I did only a small bit in a spoon, so I can't really say how much yellow and red to add, but it is possible. Also, the new yellow is slightly different. It is now slightly darker, and a bit more opaque, I think this is a plus! I also wanted to mention that the Grey is actually a gunmetal grey, and is slightly metallic. This is a great color for the some of the parts of the Fighting Men Mattel molds. Also makes a great front end for the Mattel "Borer" Eeeeks bug.

Has anyone ever noticed any differences in different batches of goop from Patti-Goop? I really like the Green-Blue, I hope she never changes the recipe of this color.

Goop and Plasti-Steel

I recently purchased and received some Superplastic Goop. It seems to be pretty good stuff! I like it! I was just wondering what has been the experience of others as far as, how hard is Superplastic Goop supposed to get after baking it. I'm sure the phrase "Hard as Steel" is a bit overstated. Of course, plastic is never as hard as steel, but how hard should it be? The Superplastic Goop is certainly harder than regular goop, but is still rather flexible. Is this normal? I was hoping for something that would bake up hard like styrene, or even nylon or delrin. What temperature is best for Superplastic Goop and what baking times are normally used?

My girls and I had a lot of fun together making goop dolls and creepers. Now they are adolescent and there are not interested anymore.

This is why I have two ovens and a few molds I would rather get rid of. I have not decided of a price for the lot so we can work something out if anyone is interested.

I have:
- the Creepy Crawlers oven
- the 1995 DollyMaker Boutique Moulding oven

and a few mold, all from Toymax, Inc.:

X-Men:
- 1995 - 299-1
- 1995 - 301-1
- 1995 - 302-1

Unidentify heros:
-1995 - 262-1

Creepy Crawlers:
year not written on the mold - 3-1
year not written on the mold - 4-1

Scary Scurriers
1993 - 33-1

Benderoids:
1994 - 105-1
1994 - 104-1

DollyMaker:
Doll 1995 - 289
Doll Clothes 1995 - 247
Doll Clothes 1995 - 278-5
Doll Clothes 1995 - 288

Bodyparts:
1992 - guts- 24-1

Does anyone have any new ideas as to what might be created (patterns, pictures, etc.) with the picadoo molds. I figure that they're still the least popular of all the Thingmaker molds, but still, was wondering if anyone has any ideas.. I had a few but couldn't make them look right.

how rare were Squirtles

I have wanted to buy one of the Squirtles sets and have tried to on eBay several times. The price seems a little high. Is this because fewer of these were made and so are now rare? To anyone who has recently purchased this set, if it's alright to ask ,what price did you pay for this set?

Joseph Jester
